Monarch ladies, this one’s for you! You’re invited to any of our upcoming Monarch Meet-Ups, group walks for ladies at ODU, on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month from 4-5 p.m. This group meets outside of the Student Recreation and Well-Being Center for a 1-2 mile route around campus. In case of rain or extreme cold, the group meets inside the SRWC lobby and walks the indoor track together.

Upcoming Walks:

  • March 11

  • March 25

  • April 8

  • April 22 (Earth Day! Campus Clean-Up Walk)

What are Monarch Meet-Ups? These gatherings are organized group walks for ODU ladies looking for a chance to make connections, enjoy the fresh air, and get some steps in! Participants are encouraged to arrive solo and follow the 3 ground rules: 1) Spread the Warmth: Greet everyone with a smile and be present — your inclusivity and kindness sets the tone! 2) Step Outside Your Comfort Zone: Chat with someone new each walk — you might just meet your new bestie! 3) Ladies Supporting Ladies: This is a safe and uplifting space for women — encourage, empower, and enjoy!

Why walk? Studies have found that walking 30 minutes a day, five times a week, can reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression by 47% due to the release of endorphins and the calming effect on the brain’s response to stress. While our walks are only twice a month, it’s a great way to establish an enjoyable walking habit and meet others who may want to join you for more walks in between scheduled walks! Did you know? Studies show that people who exercise with a friend or group are 65% more likely to maintain their exercise habit over time.

We have a Monarch Meet-Ups GroupMe to keep in touch, but you must attend at least one walk in person to be added!
